Fire Safety Analysis for LP-Gas Storage Facilities provides a structured approach for review to control the release of propane based upon type and frequency of transfer operations, size of storage, and location relative to other hazards.

The Fire Safety Analysis (FSA) is a self-conducted audit of the safety features of a propane installation and an assessment of the means to minimize the potential for inadvertent propane releases from storage containers and during transfer operations. This FSA manual is intended for use by propane plant owners or operators, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction and emergency response personnel. The manual addresses the process by which a FSA can be conducted for a LP-Gas facility containing one or more stationary ASME containers. Chapter 8 of the manual addresses Evaluation of Fire Services and Water Supply Requirements for different sizes of propane facilities.

These terms are often used interchangeably and, while it is true that they have similar fire hazards, propane is only one of several constituent gases that make up Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Propane is the LP-Gas most frequently encountered by emergency responders and can be found in a wide variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer settings.
