P38 INC. SUPPORTS THE NEW ONTARIO REGULATION 440/08 REQUIRING FIRE SERVICES APPROVAL FOR RISK AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT PLAN WITH FIRE SAFETY PLANNING, PROTECTION AND PREPAREDNESS RESOURCES
London, Ontario, Canada – April 27, 2010
Local Fire Services, under the new Ontario Regulation 440/08, are required to approve all components of the Risk and Safety Management Plan that address fire protection, fire safety, and emergency preparedness for the safe operation of a propane retail outlet, filling plant, cardlock/keylock, private outlet or container refill centre.
The members of P38 Inc. (P38), in their commitment to compliance in all aspects of their business, support the timely and accurate completion of the Risk and Safety Management Plans. In the interest of conforming to the highest standards of regulatory compliance and product safety, P38 has compiled a collection of resources to support fire safety planning, protection and preparedness. The members of P38 expect this information will be of assistance to the Fire Services in their approval of propane Risk and Safety Management Plans, and also in other risk planning that may be required.
This information will serve to provide background and guidance for local Fire Services regarding information to address Fire Safety Planning, Fire Safety Protection and Propane Fire Training. Links are provided to various sites where publicly available information and documents can be downloaded. Information is also available about resources that can be purchased to assist the Fire Services in their approval process. Local Fire Services can access all of these resources online, at: www.propanefacts.ca/safety/firesafety/.
A typical Risk and Safety Management Plan has many elements. Fire safety planning, protection and preparedness represent only one component of the complete Risk and Safety Management Plan. Other elements include such items as facility design and process information; operating policies and procedures; location risk calculations; and, training records. Local Fire Services are only required to approve the fire protection, fire safety and emergency preparedness elements.
