There are numerous producers of natural gas liquids (NGL’s) including propane throughout Canada. Some of the major NGL producers in Canada are:

  • Shell Canada
  • BP Canada Energy
  • Provident Energy

Primary production occurs in Western Canada with Sarnia, Ontario a major hub for the storage and distribution of NGL’s in Eastern Canada and the north eastern United States. Localized supply is also available in Eastern Canada from refineries such as Montreal, Nanticoke and Dartmouth. NGL supply is also available from Shell Canada in the Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia area from offshore Sable Island gas. Propane is transported to markets in pipelines, by railcar and by truck transport. Propane is also stored below ground in caverns and above ground in pressurized or refrigerated storage vessels.
